Dear Sisters and Brothers,
I think I can speak with certainty on behalf of my 4 brothers when I say that we are overwhelmed by the success of the 5 Days for the Cuban 5 in Washington DC. It is the perfect example of the power of solidarity in our struggle to win over the hearts and minds of others into our road to freedom. We know that justice is on our side and in the end we will be victorious because of our friends around the world that continues to grow not just in numbers but in determination and energy. I know that many of you came to Washington from long distances to represent hundreds of others. This in itself shows that our movement is not one of fiction but one that is actively connected and working together.
I am often asked how, despite being sentenced to 2 lives in a U.S. prison, that I can stay so positive and forward looking and I answer with conviction the same thing each and every time; it is because the Cuban 5 enjoys the support of people like you and the love of our homeland.
After almost 14 years of unjust imprisonment, the cause of the Cuban 5 is in a very special moment. A moment that requires us to double our efforts for our claim to be heard and to make it impossible for the U.S. government to ignore. We can see every year in the UN vote against the U.S. blockade of Cuba and in what just happened at the summit in Cartegena, that became a referendum on our exclusion, that the people of the world are with Cuba. We must take that sentiment with us in our common struggle towards our inevitable freedom.
On behalf of the Five and our families I express our deepest appreciation to each of you who participated in the many activities in Washington this week and the great step forward it means in our cause.
Hasta La Victoria Siempre!
