Imagen activaMexico, Aug 10 (Prensa Latina) Rosa Aurora Freijanes, wife of Cuban antiterrorist fighter Fernando Gonzalez, will attend the USA-Mexico-Latin America labor conference, organized in the border city of Tijuana, in Baja California, on August 15 to 19.
This year, in addition to Freijanes, U.S. peace activist Cindy Sheehan will attend. Sheehan has openly expressed support for the cause to free the Cuban Five, serving long, unjust and disproportionate sentences in the United States.
Since 2007, and as part of this conference, the International Committee to Free the Five in the United States has included this issue in the meeting agenda, to raise public awareness about the case.
Freijanes will share with the audience from both sides of the US-Mexico border, as well as delegates from other countries, including Cuba and Mexico, the current state of actions and complaints by family members to achieve the return home of Fernando Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Rene Gonzalez. The latter Gonzalez is currently on supervised probation in Florida.
The documentary Essence, about the tour of the United States by the Cuban children’s theater group La Colmenita, will be also screened at the meeting, attended by young people and workers in general.
The Cuban Five, as they are universally known, were detained on September 12, 1998, almost 14 years ago, in Miami, while monitoring revealed terrorist plans and criminal groups from Cuban origin based in south Florida.
