Ninth Symposium, for the freedom of the Cuban Five, in Holguin province

By Roberto Ortiz del Toro /  13 November 2013
Holguin province turns into a huge international platform (Nov. 13-17) which demands the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez, four of the Cuban antiterrorist fighters who remain unjustly imprisoned in the United States for over 15 years now.

This ninth International Colloquium for the Freedom of the Five and against Terrorism, will have as special incentive the presence of René González Schewerert, currently leading the battle for the liberation of his brothers in arms, who is in Cuba after serving his sentence and part of his supervised release that was imposed as an additional punishment.

For his final return to the country, with his family and people who admire him, he had to give up his U.S. citizenship. However, the Five will remain five because as this Hero of the Republic of Cuba expressed, he will not be completely free until Gerardo, Fernando, Ramon and Antonio are released.

In Holguin expectations are fixed in this Colloquium which will count, as in previous representations, with the presence from various countries that come to raise their voices in solidarity to stop the injustice that has been committed against the Five in more than 15 years of the cruel and inhuman captivity.

The symposium will take place in an international context where there is an increase of solidarity actions in different countries of the world in which organizations, personalities, lawyers, artists and honest men and women are demanding President Barack Obama to free the Five and put an end to a process that is a disgrace to American justice.

Meanwhile, the boom for Voices the Five increases, a new international campaign for the freedom of the Cuban Five, an initiative backed by important personalities worldwide, which includes a busy schedule of activities to demand the release of Cuban antiterrorists imprisoned in the U.S., among which is the convening of an International Commission of Inquiry on the case, which will be held in London on 7 and 8 March 2014.

The battle for the freedom of our countrymen should be intensified within the United States, break down the wall of silence that they have tried to impose on the case, and make the people of that nation join the International Solidarity Movement, because only a jury of millions can realize the ultimate goal of Gerardo, Fernando, Ramon and Antonio: their final release.
