U.S. People Can Promote Release of Cuban Antiterrorists

Havana, Nov 14 (Prensa Latina) The coordinator of the International Committee to Free the Five, Alicia Jrapko, urged here today to carry out action to influence the U.S. opinion about the release of the Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly condemned in that country.

Jrapko, who is attending the 9th Colloquium for the Release of the Five and against Terrorism, taking place in Holguin, 734 kilometers of Havana, said the strength of the U.S. people can contribute greatly to the success of this cause, she told Granma newspaper.

Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernandez, and Rene Gonzalez, known as the Five, were condemned to long sentences 15 years ago in U.S. prisons, for preventing terrorist attacks against Cuba.

After completing his sentence in prison, Rene Gonzalez returned to the island. A judge accepted his stay in Cuba in exchange for renouncing his U.S. citizenship.

The U.S. coordinator talked of the necessity to continue demanding President Barack Obama the release of those innocent men.

During the colloquium, Cuba acknowledged the support provided by solidarity organizations from European countries, such as Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom in the implementation of actions within the United States for their release.
