Geneva, Mar 12 (Prensa Latina) Adriana Perez, wife of one of the Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly condemned in the United States, today demanded the Council on Human Rights to speak to find an immediate and definite solution to this case.
Speaking at the 25 session of that forum, Adriana recalled that Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Rene Gonzalez, and Fernando Gonzalez, were arrested in 1998 and condemned to long prison sentences for warning their country from terrorist actions by the Miami Mafia.
The Five, as they are universally known, were tried in Miami at a rigged trial, influenced by mass media paid by the U.S. government, which revived the hostility of that venue, already adverse.
“These men have suffered tortures, and cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatments throughout the years. Their trials were affected by vice and political motivation, and a clear example of that is the concealment and manipulation of exculpatory evidences,” she said.
Gerardo’s wife recalled that the detentions of those antiterrorist fighters were declared as arbitrary by the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention of Human Rights Commission of the United Nations in 2005, however, the U.S. government has not obeyed that decision.
She noted that Antonio Guerrero, sentenced to 27 years in prison plus a period of supervised release, Ramon Labañino, sentenced to 30 years in prison, and Gerardo Hernandez, her spouse, sentenced to die in prison due to his double life imprisonment plus 15 years, are still in jails.
Adriana stated that despite reiterated complaints in this and other forums about the injustices committed against The Five and relatives, as well as statements by many heads of State, parliaments, figures and organizations worldwide, the wall of silence about the case still persists.
“This is the Council on Human Rights, this agency is responsible for help us find a humanitarian, immediate and definitive solution that ends so much suffering, allowing that Antonio, Ramon and Gerardo return home, Adriana Perez stated.s, this agency is responsible for help us find a humanitarian, immediate and definitive solution that ends so much suffering, allowing that Antonio, Ramon and Gerardo return home, Adriana Perez stated.
