HAVANA, Cuba, June 10 (acn) Yeidckol Polevnsky, vice-president of the Mexican Senate, made an appeal in this capital to followers of Jose Marti’s ideas, so they raise their voices in favor of the release of The Five. Polevnsky made this statement in the presence of delegates to the 2nd International Colloquium “Jose Marti: for a Culture of Nature”, underway at Havana’s Convention Center.
Polevnsky dedicated part of her address to Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino y Fernando Gonzalez, whom she described as five profound Marti followers. The Five Heroes have been imprisoned for 12 years now –pointed out Polevnsky-, for their love of humanism and their land, and for facing the cruellest terrorism generated against Cuba from US territory.
The Mexican Senator urged participants to spread Marti’s ideas, so all the peoples can get closer to and acquainted with Cuban reality, the objectives people live and fight for on the island and the reason why the five antiterrorists are unfairly incarcerated in the United States. Armando Hart, president of the Jose Marti Cultural Society, presented Polevnsky with the certificate “The Usefulness of Virtue”, the highest distinction of his institution, for her friendship and solidarity towards the Cuban Revolution and for her great efforts in the spreading of Marti’s ideas. Present in the session were Tubal Paez, president of the Association of Cuban Journalists and vice-president of the Cuban Parliament’s Commission for International Relations, and Cuba’s ambassador to Mexico, Manuel Aguilera.
