President of the Women's International Democratic Federation demands release of the Cuban Five

New Delhi, July 20 (RHC) --- The President of the Women's International Democratic Federation (FDIM) Brazilian Marcia Campos, visiting New Deli, strongly demanded the release of the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters unfairly imprisoned in the United States.

Campos made the statement as she addressed the international conference "Food Security and Women," organized by the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi, sponsored by her organization and the National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW).

President of the National Federation of Indian Women Annie Raja also raised her voice in solidarity with the Cuban people to demand the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino, Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez, imprisoned for almost 11 years in the United States.

The Five, as they are universally known, were detained in 1998, for monitoring terrorist groups responsible of violent actions against Cuba. They were tried in Miami in 2001 amidst a virulent anti-Cuban atmosphere.
