THE CUBAN 5

message from rene gonzalez on 1oth anniversary of the arrest of the cuban five

September 12, 2008

Dear friends from all over the world:

Today is going to be ten years since the American federal authorities, playing the part of ordinary accomplices of the terrorist Miami mafia, broke into our houses with overwhelming violence to start this shameful chapter on the history of aggressions against Cuba.

During an entire decade the brutality of that early morning has done nothing else but to replicate itself, assuming the shapes appropriate to each branch of the imperial power in order to perpetuate this crime. So the right of the terrorists to attack Cuba from Miami with impunity, under the benevolence and protection of the most powerful and immoral government on earth has been consecrated in the face of the world.

The disciplined silence of the disinformation multi nationals has been a key element on the consummation of this mockery of justice. Thanks to that silence its perverse purposes are hidden to the people, without exposing to public shame the uncivilized and vindictive nature of a legal system that only works on cinematography.

On the face of that silence the voice of all of you has stood in denunciation, as a reminder that there is still conscience and vocation for justice. Your countless examples of support have given us encouragement and stand as a perennial defiance to the control that our punishers exert over human consciences.

We don't harbor any illusion. We know an irrational hatred will keep being unleashed on us, and that we are going to be made accountable for the fifty years of indomitable resistance put up by our people. The symbolism of our moral stand as opposed to the meanness of our enemy doesn't escape them, and that won't be forgiven to us. We don't expect that the US judges, out of pure vocation, opt to uphold their own laws.

We all have to keep denouncing, mobilizing, educating and waking up consciences. What has been already done has to be multiplied, until the weight of universal conscience overcomes the shamelessness which has animated this legal process.

We'll keep trust ting all of you. We'll keep acknowledging your efforts, admiring you and professing our gratitude. We'll keep resisting.

Till Victory Always
